Highlights CARAVAN SALON 2026 Dusseldorf

At MODYN, we look beyond individual products to identify the design shifts shaping the future of mobility.

At Caravan Salon Düsseldorf 2026, we saw an interesting contrast: traditional craftsmanship, comfort and long-lasting quality alongside a new generation of campervans embracing bold expression, tactile materials, smart space solutions and a more contemporary design language.

Rather than opposing directions, these developments point towards an exciting opportunity: how can future caravaning combine timeless quality with technology, personality and flexibility?

We identified eight key design trends that offer a glimpse into where the industry could be heading:

NEO Retro

Retro is back, but reinterpreted. Familiar silhouettes and details are combined with modern proportions, materials and technology, creating products that feel nostalgic yet contemporary.

CMF: Metallic Hues

Warm metallics such as copper and brass are becoming powerful tools for creating distinctive identities. The challenge lies in balancing contrast, integration and a premium feel.

Softened Geometry

Rounded edges, curved panels and softer transitions are replacing sharp geometry. Especially in compact interiors, these forms improve flow and usability while adding a sense of craftsmanship and refinement.

Design for Expression

Colour, graphics and material combinations are increasingly being used to give campervans a distinct personality. This opens up opportunities for caravan brands to introduce more individuality while maintaining the timelessness their products demand.

Inflatable Innovation

Inflatable structures are moving beyond tents into mobile living. Lightweight, compact and comfortable, inflatable roofs and structures offer new ways to create additional space while introducing a softer, more approachable aesthetic.

Components as Identity

Standard components don’t have to result in generic design. By thoughtfully integrating and customising existing components, brands can create distinctive visual signatures without the cost and complexity of developing everything from scratch.

The Power of Touch

Texture, gloss levels, soft-touch surfaces and material contrasts are making mobility more multisensory. Subtle tactile details can have a powerful impact on how a vehicle is perceived, experienced and remembered.

Tech-First Caravans

Concepts such as the Aquila 360 and Karoo challenge traditional caravan conventions through electric-towing compatibility, smarter functionality, flexible layouts and automotive-inspired design. Their less-is-more approach points towards smaller, smarter and more open forms of caravaning.

Material Innovation

New materials such as EPP are opening up opportunities across mobility. Lightweight, durable, moisture-resistant and vibration-absorbing, EPP combines comfort and performance with potential for more sustainable and recyclable solutions.

The bigger picture?

The caravan of the future may not need to choose between timeless quality and modern innovation. The most interesting opportunities lie in combining the 2 creating products that are more personal, flexible, tactile and technologically advanced, while remaining relevant for years to come.
