Embedded capacity
How it works
You reserve a fixed number of days each month, for an agreed period and with a notice period agreed at the start. One named designer or engineer works inside your team, on your projects, in your planning and, where it is agreed, in your tools: on site, from our studio, or a mix. You pay a fixed monthly fee for the days reserved, invoiced monthly.
You get one person, and the studio behind them. When a question needs a mock-up from our workshop, a sample from the materials library or a second opinion from engineering or CMF, it is booked as days on the same arrangement, not as a new project.
What they make for you is yours.
When this fits
Most often it is capacity: a launch year with more programmes than people, a vacancy that is taking months to fill, a production ramp-up that needs engineering hours now. Sometimes it is one skill for one programme, CMF, Class A surfacing or mechanism design, and not for ever. Among the clients and prospects who answered our 2026 partner survey, a shortage of internal capacity was the most common reason to bring in outside help, ahead of specialist expertise and a new launch.
It fits best when the work is design or engineering of physical products: bicycles and e-bikes, child seats, strollers, carriers, and the vehicles we develop the same way. We place designers and engineers. If a programme needs a project manager as well, we say so at the fit call.
How it starts, and how it ends
A 20-minute fit call to understand the programme, the gap and the planning. We propose the person, the days per month, the period and a start date; you meet them before anything is signed.
Embedded capacity can stay a standing arrangement, step up or down with your planning at the agreed notice, or turn into a project with a defined brief and a named team when the scope becomes clear. Either way we aim to keep the same people on your work, which is usually the point.
Gazelle — a standing role
Every year MODYN presents Royal Dutch Gazelle with the colour palette for its full bike collection: market and fashion trends read into colours that fit the brand and the riders it sells to. The work comes back every season, so what we know of the brand and the range carries from one collection to the next.
“What makes them unique is our long term relationship. They know our target market and they know how to make a difference on a detail level with their designs.” Mirjam van Coillie, then Director of Marketing & Innovation, Royal Dutch Gazelle
Maxi-Cosi Lila — staying on through production
For the Lila stroller family MODYN led the design, then stayed on as adviser to Maxi-Cosi’s engineering team through production. The people who had made the decisions that matter, the one-hand fold and the parts shared across three strollers, were still there to keep the design true through tooling and the first samples.
VDL — in at any stage
“When we work with MODYN, we only have to give them half a briefing and they can get straight to work and know what we mean and what we want. […] MODYN is also very flexible and can jump in to help at any point in the project.” Bram Veendrick, Product Designer / Design Manager, VDL ETS
