The Bobike Exclusive Evolve range represents a new generation of premium child bike seats, developed around comfort, safety, adjustability and refined product expression. The range includes the Evolve Mini, for children from 9 months to 3 years, and the Evolve Maxi, for children from 9 months up to 6 years.
Building on Bobike’s iconic double-walled safety structure, MODYN supported the full development of a more advanced and feature-rich seat platform. The ambition was to evolve the recognisable Bobike design language into a more premium product family, where comfort is not only functional, but also clearly visible and tangible in the design.
The Bobike Evolve Maxi was awarded a German Design Award in the category Excellent Product Design, Bicycles and E Bikes. The recognition underlines the product’s successful combination of safety, comfort, innovation and user-friendliness.
The Evolve Maxi shows how product design can turn technical functionality into a clear market advantage. Features such as recline, integrated suspension, adjustable headrest, harness and footrests are not treated as separate add-ons, but as part of one coherent seat architecture.
MODYN helped Bobike move beyond a more classic child seat typology towards a more advanced and premium product expression, while maintaining the brand’s trusted safety DNA. The result is a seat that feels protective, comfortable and refined at the same time.
The design strengthens Bobike’s position in key European markets, including Germany, where comfort, certification, premium usability and brand trust are important purchase drivers. Internally confirmed and approved, the connection to Britax as a successor to the well-known Jockey seat could further support the commercial relevance of the product in the German market.
Comfort was one of the key drivers throughout the development. The wrap-around seat geometry creates a protected and enclosed feeling for the child, while the cushioning adds a softer and more comfortable ride experience.
The Evolve Maxi also integrates a one-handed recline system of up to 20°, making it ideal for longer rides and for children who fall asleep on the bike. This feature had to be integrated in a way that feels intuitive for the parent, safe for the child and visually consistent with the overall product architecture.
In addition, the Maxi includes an integrated suspension system, neatly positioned within the double-walled seat structure and underneath the cushion. This was one of the key engineering challenges of the project. The system had to improve ride comfort, remain compact, respect weight limitations, avoid finger entrapment risks and stay simple to assemble in production.
MODYN’s role was to develop and integrate this system in a way that was technically robust, safe and visually refined. The final design subtly expresses the damped seat function without exposing unnecessary mechanisms.
Comfort is also created through adjustability. The Evolve Maxi is designed to accommodate children from 9 months up to 6 years, with an easy-to-adjust headrest that offers five height positions over a 5 cm range.
The challenge was to fully integrate this adjustment system into the backrest while maintaining a clean exterior surface. No visible slots, no exposed mechanisms, just intuitive functionality that supports the child as they grow.
The adjustable footrests follow the same principle. They can be positioned at the right height with one hand and without tools, making everyday use simple for parents while ensuring the child is properly supported during the ride.
Safety remained central throughout the development. MODYN focused on optimal protection in case of impact, using Bobike’s proven double-walled construction: a rigid inner shell combined with a softer outer layer.
The seats meet the EN 14344:2022 safety standard and were thoroughly tested during development. During concept engineering, every part had to be developed with care to prevent pinching, puncturing and finger entrapment, while also respecting assembly, production and weight constraints.
The Bobike Exclusive Evolve range brings together protection, comfort, adjustability and premium detailing in one integrated seat platform. A clear example of how MODYN combines design sensitivity with technical development to create products that move people safely and comfortably.
