Meet the team: Wouter Sluis
We’re excited to introduce Wouter Sluis as the newest addition to our studio. Wouter is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) and joins us for a few months as an enthusiastic and motivated intern. During his time at MODYN, Wouter supports our team across a variety of projects.
Hi! My name is Wouter
For the upcoming months I will be supporting MODYN as their intern in all sorts of projects. Because of my interests, MODYN was the right fit for me. Because of my degree in Industrial Design at Eindhoven University of Technology and my personal interests in automotive design, mobility, and aesthetics in general, MODYN felt like the perfect fit for me. I found a place where I’m supported in developing my skills in market and business research, creating meaningful products like e-bikes and strollers, and exploring users’ needs in depth.
When did you realize you wanted to go into product development?
I first realized I wanted to pursue product development when I visited a university for the very first time. After looking into Mechanical Engineering and Architecture, I felt I couldn’t quite balance what I loved with what truly interested me. But that changed completely the moment I attended a lecture on Industrial Design.
Why did you choose the Eindhoven University of Technology after secondary school?
Eindhoven University of Technology felt like the right place for me to grow. There’s a lot of room for personal development, plenty of freedom to choose electives and engage in external activities like this one, and a very active, fun study association, all of which made choosing Eindhoven an easy decision.
What makes you happiest when you are designing/creating?
For me, the best part of designing is the time between the steps, that moment when you can draw conclusions and translate them into something feasible. Gradually building towards a final product and seeing a project evolve in the right direction always gives me a sense of joy and satisfaction.
So, when you’re not working, where can we find you? What are your hobbies and what do you like to do?
When I’m not working, you’ll often find me in the workshop of my Carnival association. From September to February, my friends and I work on building a parade float, I’m responsible for the design and for turning drawings into three-dimensional creations. And of course, during weekends, I love to relax and catch up with friends over a good drink!
Tell us your dream project to work on.
A dream project for me would be to work on a logistical solution that reduces emissions and improves overall efficiency, an ambitious, ground-up challenge that could be translated into a feasible concept helping the world move forward, one step at a time.
