Meet the team: Mariette Bal
Mariette is our new studio manager. With experience in various commercial roles, she now manages a wide range of commercial and organizational tasks within our studio.
Mariette, could you tell us a bit more about yourself?
Ever since I was a kid, I have been an energetic, creative and enthusiastic person who loves to take initiative and embrace new challenges. Early in my career, I discovered my passion for commerce and building honest relationships with clients. After completing my PR & Marketing studies in Eindhoven, I started my career at an event agency. There, I combined my creativity with client management by designing original programs such as incentives, conferences, and golf clinics.
From there, I moved into the hospitality industry, working as a sales manager and later as an account manager for well-known hotel chains including Golden Tulip, Postillion, and Bilderberg Hotels. I felt right at home! Visiting various companies, engaging in meaningful conversations with interesting people, closing appropriate contracts, and using my creativity to organize memorable events made it an exciting time. It was a great period, with generous budgets for unique programs in beautiful hotels.
When I became a mother to our son Noah, I chose to work part-time to balance my career with family life. Since then, I have worked in marketing roles at an event agency, an interior construction company and for 17 years at Bopita, a wholesaler of baby and children’s furniture. There, I held a key role in marketing, interior styling and relationship management.
How did you come to work at Modyn?
Unfortunately, Bopita ceased operations, which was a tough moment. But very quickly, I saw it as an opportunity for a fresh challenge. After many years of experience, I knew exactly what I was looking for: a creative, dynamic work environment with great colleagues, and a role where I could be hands-on, organize efficiently, and network actively. When I saw the position at Modyn, I thought, “Like this!”
What attracted you to Modyn?
I was immediately enthusiastic about the role of studio manager. After my first visit to the studio, I knew on the way home that if they offered me the job, I would definitely take it! The role fits me like a glove, and I already feel very happy working with a team of creative designers and, above all, wonderful colleagues. I stay busy handling various organizational and administrative tasks, while also putting my commercial drive to good use by networking with prospects and during trade shows.
What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working?
I really enjoy spending time with family and friends—sharing laughs and having a good time together. I’m also passionate about cooking and working on projects around the house and garden—in other words, there’s always something to keep me busy!
